100th birthday of the National Park Service
How You Enjoy
Our National Parks
AUG. 25, 2016
Aug. 25 marks the 100th birthday of the National Park Service. Earlier this month, Dayton Duncan wrote about the need to convert our affection for parks into action that will safeguard them for the future: “These parks belong to all of us. We should all visit them and enjoy them. With more champions of our parks, we can love them to renewed life instead of to death.”
We asked readers to share their photos of themselves and fellow parkgoers in action — hiking, camping, stargazing, running — using the hashtag #nationalparksNYT. Here are some of the highlights from the hundreds of submissions, and check out the Travel Section’s coverage over the years. Read more.
