The ESF Top 10 New Species for 2015

An international committee of taxonomists selected the top 10 from among the approximately 18,000 new species named during the previous year and released the list to coincide with the May 23 birthday of Carolus Linnaeus, the father of modern taxonomy.

The item recounts how various of these new species were selected for wonder. The new Tillandsia religiosa is “brought out” at Christmas to decorate churches. I think “brought out” would politely be called “harvested” –  in other words it explains how some attractive bromeliads become rare.””  

I wonder what is the fate of the bromeliads AFTER the religious ceremonies? Are they simply disposed of or returned to their habitat as – from the believers point of view – proof of respect for the God that created all creatures?
